The Reading Ale Trail is a must-do activity for beer enthusiasts looking to explore the best pubs and breweries in the town. Today, I kicked off my journey on the trail, starting at The Nags Head.
Here, I tried Janet’s Brown by Elusive Brewing, a delicious brown ale with a rich and nutty flavor profile. Elusive Brewing is a microbrewery based in Berkshire that produces small-batch, handcrafted beers using the finest ingredients and brewing techniques. Janet’s Brown was a great way to start my ale trail adventure, with its smooth, creamy texture and notes of caramel and toffee.
Next up was The Castle Tap, a chilled and relaxed establishment with a great selection of beers. I opted for a pint of High Violet by GlassHouse Beer Co. This American-style IPA was bursting with hoppy goodness, with a tropical fruit aroma and a pleasantly bitter finish. GlassHouse Beer Co is a brewery based in Cambridge that is known for producing high-quality, hop-forward beers that are full of flavor and character.
Finally, I finished up my ale trail journey at The Allied Arms, a historic and charming establishment with a great selection of real ales. Here, I enjoyed a pint of Pilgrim Porter by Sherfield Village Brewery, a classic porter with a rich, roasty flavor and a velvety smooth texture. Sherfield Village Brewery is a microbrewery based in Hampshire that uses traditional brewing methods and locally sourced ingredients to produce some of the finest beers in the region.
Overall, my experience on the Reading Ale Trail was fantastic, with each pub offering a unique and enjoyable beer tasting experience. If you’re a beer lover in Reading, I highly recommend taking the time to explore the pubs and breweries on the trail. You never know, you might discover your new favourite beer along the way. Cheers to responsible drinking and happy trails!
